Putting Your Database Knowledge to Work

Your Mission (Should You Choose to Accept It):

Level 1: Document Database Explorer

• Install MongoDB locally
• Create a "users" collection
• Insert some JSON documents with different structures
• Try aggregation queries (group by, sort, filter)
• Experience the flexibility of schemaless data!

Level 2: Key-Value Master

• Set up Redis on your machine
• Practice basic operations: SET, GET, DELETE
• Try advanced features: expiration, lists, sets
• Benchmark the speed - it'll blow your mind!

Level 3: Graph Database Ninja

• Install Neo4j Community Edition
• Model a simple social network (users and friendships)
• Write Cypher queries to find mutual friends
• Explore shortest path algorithms

Pro Tips:

• Don't just read about databases - USE them!
• Create small, fun projects with each type
• Compare performance between different approaches
• Document your "aha!" moments

Real-world exercise: Pick a feature from your favorite app (Instagram feed, Amazon recommendations, LinkedIn connections) and figure out which database type would suit it best. Then build a mini-version!

Remember: The goal isn't to become an expert overnight, but to understand the superpowers each database brings to the table.

Pro Tip: The best way to understand databases is to get your hands dirty - theory is good, but practice makes you dangerous!
